Global: G-7 Promises Aid to Transition Countries Away From Coal
Global G-7’s worldview members are committed to providing aid to countries that are transitioning away from coal in the fight against climate change, says British Prime Minister David Cameron.
In a speech at the G-7 Summit in Italy, US President Barack Obama announced a $1 billion aid package for transition countries, including Ukraine, which was devastated by a civil war in 2014. The US will also provide $250 million to the International Energy Agency and will make a commitment to phase out coal power by 2030.
The G-7 leaders on Tuesday pledged up to $200 billion in new aid over the next four years to developing countries seeking to wean themselves off dirty fossil fuels.
